Privacy Policy — Unworked Gold

Unworked Gold is a gold prospecting and mining claims map built for recreational prospectors. This policy explains what data we collect when you use the app, how we use it, and what control you have over it. We've written it in plain English — no lawyer-speak.

Section 01

What We Collect

We collect the minimum needed to run the app. Here's exactly what that means:

Used to log you in and send claim-watch alerts. We don't send marketing emails unless you opt in.

Saved spots and finds

Locations and notes you choose to save in the app. Stored in your account and visible only to you.

Saved and watched claims

BLM mining claims you bookmark or set alerts on. Used to send notifications when claim status changes.

Rock ID and Outcrop Mapper photos

Photos you submit for AI analysis are sent to Anthropic's API for identification. We do not store your photos — they are processed and discarded. Anthropic's privacy policy applies to their processing.

Map viewport and location

Where the map is positioned when you use the app. Used to show relevant data layers and remember your last location. We do not track your precise GPS position continuously.

Device and browser info

Browser type, approximate IP-based location, and screen size. Used to diagnose bugs and improve the app. Not tied to your account for profiling purposes.

Section 02

How We Use It

Your data has one job: making the app work for you. Specifically:

Keeping you logged in across sessions
Storing your saved spots, finds, and claims so they're there next time
Sending email alerts when a claim you're watching changes status
Processing AI tool requests (Rock ID, Outcrop Mapper) via Anthropic
Understanding how features are used so we can improve them

We do not sell your data. We don't run ads. There are no third-party advertisers with access to your account information. The only external service that touches your data is Anthropic (for AI photo analysis) and Supabase (our database host).

Section 03

Cookies and Analytics

We use two types of cookies:

Authentication cookies

Set by Supabase to keep you logged in. Required for the app to function. Cannot be disabled without breaking your account.

Analytics (Plausible)

We use Plausible Analytics — a privacy-first tool that doesn't set cookies, doesn't track you across sites, and doesn't collect personal information. It only counts page visits and feature usage in aggregate.

We don't use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or any third-party marketing scripts.

Section 04

Your Rights

Whether you're in California (CCPA) or the EU/UK (GDPR), you have the right to:

Request a copy of all data we hold about your account
Delete your account and all associated data (spots, finds, saved claims, watches)
Opt out of analytics at any time by enabling Do Not Track in your browser — Plausible respects it
Ask us not to process your data for any purpose beyond running the app
Receive your data in a portable format (CSV or JSON) on request

To exercise any of these rights, email us at the address below. We'll respond within 30 days.

Section 05

Data Retention

Your account data is kept as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your personal information within 30 days. Anonymized analytics data (aggregate feature usage counts) may be retained indefinitely.

AI photo submissions are not retained by us at all — they're sent to Anthropic's API and the response is returned to you. Check Anthropic's privacy policy for how they handle API inputs.

Section 06

Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes — meaning changes that affect what data we collect or how we use it — we'll update the "Effective" date at the top and notify logged-in users by email at least 14 days before the change takes effect.

Minor edits (typos, clarifications, formatting) won't trigger a notification but the date will update.
